Japan donates border security equipment worth MVR 72.6 mln

Japan has donated equipment worth MVR 72.6 million to enhance border security in the Maldives.

Defense Minister Maria Ahmed Didi received the aid at a ceremony held at Maldives Customs Service on Tuesday. Japan's grant aid includes some border security equipment and vehicles.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Maria said the Japanese assistance would ensure the security of Maldives' border and make it easier to work in emergency situations. She noted that Japan is a country that provides numerous assistance to the Maldives' security forces.

The Japanese Embassy in the Maldives said it hoped the assistance would help strengthen public security and border control.
