The deadline to apply for the Best Tourism Village Award has been extended.
The World Tourism Organization -- UN WTO -- launched the Best Tourism Village award in 2021. The program aims to facilitate growth and development in the islands while encouraging the expansion of tourism in the area.
The opportunity to apply for the award was previously opened by the Tourism Ministry until April 20. However, the ministry has now extended the deadline until Monday to allow as many islands as possible to apply for the award. The government will submit the best eight village proposals to the UN WTO.
Proposals can be submitted by islands with populations of less than 15,000. The Tourism Ministry will provide technical assistance in preparing the proposal.
Over 70 villages or neighborhoods from 40 countries have been recognized as Best Tourism Villages worldwide.
