EC seeks to hire over 5,500 election officials

The Elections Commission (EC) is seeking to hire 5,559 officials for the upcoming presidential election.

The Maldives' presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 9. The EC has now opened applications for those interested in working as election officials, setting the deadline for submission as June 22.

According to EC's announcement, those who apply to work as election officials must be over the age of 18 and must not hold a senior position in any political party. Any person who is actively involved in the campaign of any candidate and has family ties to any candidate cannot become an official.

EC said polling station heads would be paid MVR 1,500 and a phone allowance of MVR 100, assistants to polling station heads MVR 1,200, polling station officials MVR 1,000, and reserve officials MVR 500. In addition to the allowance, EC will provide meals for the officials on polling day.
