MNP secures first local council seat

The Maldives National Party (MNP) has won its first local council seat.

MNP candidate Anees Mohamed contested against independent candidate Rasheedha Adam in the ADh. Dhidhdhoo Council by-election. Anees received 62 votes, while Rasheedha received 57 votes.

Out of the 147 eligible voters, 119 cast their votes in Saturday's election.

Dhidhdhoo is an island in MNP President MP Mohamed Nazim's Dhangethi constituency. Although the MNP has been contesting by-elections since its inception, this is the first time the party has successfully won a seat.
