Family Court sees 41 percent increase in number of cases disposed

The Maldives Family Court has reported a significant increase in the number of cases it has disposed of during the first three months of this year.

Compared to the same period last year, the court has seen a 41 percent rise in cases closed, with an average of 20 days to decide compared to 34 days in 2022.

"This is the average length of time it took to close cases, including the time spent in the conciliation process and also including custody cases, which usually take longer to conclude," the Family Court said.

The court also reported that cases filed under the Children's Rights Protection Act had the quickest turnaround time, with an average of six days for resolution, while domestic violence protection orders were resolved within an average of eight days.
