Mahir appointed as Family Court's Chief Judge

Judge Ibrahim Mahir of Meadow, R. Alifushi, has been officially appointed as the Chief Judge of the court.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC)'s President and Thulhaadoo MP Hisan Hussain handed over the Chief Justice's letter of appointment to Mahir at a ceremony held at the commission on Sunday.

The post of Chief Justice of the Family Court became vacant following the appointment of Huzaifa Mohamed as a High Court judge in June this year. Since then, Judge Mahir has been temporarily serving as the Chief Justice of the Family Court. The JSC decided to appoint Mahir as the Chief Justice of the Family Court on October 5 after interviewing eligible candidates who applied for the vacant post.

Judge Mahir is the longest-serving judge in the Family Court. He has been working in the Family Court for over 12 years. Mahir was first appointed as a Civil Court judge on November 9, 2005, and became a Family Court judge on May 23, 2010.
