Immigration's passport service interrupted

The Maldives Immigration's passport service has been temporarily suspended due to a technical issue.

According to a tweet from the Immigration Department, the service is expected to resume later today.

The disruption comes amid a significant increase in passport applications, with the number of submissions doubling in anticipation of the upcoming school holidays. An immigration official reported to AVAS that the daily average of passport applications was around 160-170 last month. However, since last week, the number has surged to an average of 290-300 daily.

Maldives Immigration is actively working to restore the passport issuance service, and the public can expect the service to resume soon.
