Oil imports increase by 41 percent

Oil imports in the first three months of this year increased by 41.5 percent over the same period last year.

The Maldives imported oil worth MVR 2.5 billion in the first quarter, compared to oil worth MVR 1.7 billion imported during the same period last year.

Statistics show that the Maldives imported goods worth MVR 12.4 billion in the first three months of this year, accounting for 20 percent of the total imports.

February - MVR 967.9 million
March - MVR 758.3 million

According to statistics, food items worth MVR 2.6 billion and machinery worth MVR 2 billion were imported during the first three months of the year. Oil, food items, and machinery account for a large percentage of the Maldives' imports.
