Bilehdhoo MP Ibrahim 'Dhonbilay' Haleem, a close associate of Parliament Speaker and MDP President Mohamed Nasheed, has pledged his allegiance to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the upcoming presidential election. Haleem's declaration comes amid internal conflict within MDP, resulting in the formation of a new party by Nasheed's supporters.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Magoodhoo island on Saturday during President Solih's ongoing visit to Faafu atoll, Haleem assured that President Solih would win a large majority from the Bilehdhoo constituency in the presidential election. He emphasized that the current government had brought unprecedented development to the constituency, a feat that previous governments failed to achieve. He noted that President Solih's government had brought an end to the frustration of his constituents.
Furthermore, Haleem affirmed his commitment to remaining with the government in the Parliament, asserting independence from external influences.
