MDP defectors dismissed from gov't positions

Some members of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who have defected to the newly emerging party, The Democrats, have been dismissed from their government positions.

The MDP requested the termination of these political figures, a move that has aimed at criticism from the public.

A senior government official told AVAS that the government had been receiving complaints about the dismissed political figures for weeks ahead of their dismissal.

"We decided to expel them because they left the party and have been actively criticizing the government," the official stated.

While the exact number of dismissals remains unknown, the government faces criticism for not removing some members of other parties in the ruling coalition from government positions while it removes MDP defectors.
