Environment Ministry's State Minister sacked

Environment Ministry's State Minister Ahmed Mujthaba has been sacked.

Mujthaba was sacked after he defected from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the newly emerging party, The Democrats.

Mujthaba was appointed as the Minister of State on November 29, 2018. The President's Office has now issued a letter informing him of his termination.

Several government officials who signed up for The Democrats after being with the MDP have been sacked over the last two days. However, the details of the dismissals are unknown.

Earlier on Monday, Ahmed Mausoom, a loyal MDP-ian until now and who is said to have contributed significantly to the party both in service and financially, also resigned as chairman of the MWSC. Mausoom, who is also a close associate of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed who spearheads the anti-government within MDP, has now joined The Democrats.

The Democrats have condemned the dismissal of government officials who sign up for the party.
