Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has said no agreement has been reached on the appointment of members to the standing committees of the Parliament.
In light of the recent defection of MDP MPs forming a new political party, the Parliament Secretariat consulted political parties last month on the appointment of members to the committees. However, an agreement has yet to be reached among the parties involved.
At Wednesday's Parliament sitting, Nasheed acknowledged the necessity to change the composition of Parliament committees. He emphasized the need to reach an agreement on the matter.
“I believe it is important for the parties to sit down and discuss this matter and reach a decision,” he said.
