Driver that hit Hafeez arrested under a court order

The driver of the motorcycle that hit Maldives National University lecturer Ali Hafeez has been arrested.

Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested earlier today under a court order in connection with the accident. According to the police, the young man did not possess a driving license.

The accident occurred on June 28 when Ali Hafeez was hit by a speeding motorcycle when he was on his way home from his morning prayer. Hafeez has been receiving at the ADK Hospital, but he remains in critical condition. Friends and family are trying to raise funds to airlift him abroad for further treatment.

There were earlier rumors that the motorist fled the scene following the accident. However, the police said the man did not flee the scene and had also been injured in the accident.
