Over 300 changes have been made to the voters' list for the upcoming presidential election after considering complaints submitted to the provisional list of eligible voters for the presidential election.
A total of 551 complaints were lodged regarding the initial voters' list that was released on June 11. Initially, it stated that 282,672 individuals were eligible to vote. However, as a result of the amendments made in response to the complaints received by the commission, the number of eligible voters for the election now stands at 282,406.

Re-registration for the presidential election is scheduled to open on the 16th of this month. The EC has earlier said that it is making arrangements to facilitate online re-registration.
The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for September 9 this year. If a second round is necessary, voting is scheduled for September 30. The opportunity to apply for candidacy for the presidential election will be open from July 23 to August 7.
The main-ruling MDP has handed over its presidential tickets to its leader, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, while the Jumhooree Party has handed over its ticket to its leader Qasim Ibrahim. The Maldives National Party (MNP)'s President, Mohamed Nazim, will contest on the party's ticket, while the PPM has named its President and former President Abdullah Yameen as the party's candidate. However, President Yameen is serving an 11-year prison sentence, which makes him ineligible to contest the election until a higher court overturns the lower court's sentence.
Former Home Minister Umar Naseer and former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munawwar have also said they would contest the election.
