Mathi Komandoo dredging to reach completion next month

The Mathi Komandoo dredging project will be completed next month, CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim has said.

The project to connect the two Komandoos was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the Komandoo constituency by-election campaign. The government awarded the contract to MTCC on January 12, 2022, for MVR 249.9 million, to be completed in 730 days.

Azim said the company aims to complete the dredging work by the end of August. He acknowledged that there is skepticism among the public whether Mathi Komandoo will indeed be dredged.

"Many don't believe Mathi Komandoo will not be dredged. However, I want to assure you that dredging will commence at the end of July, and it will be completed by the end of August," Azim said.

The scope of the project includes reclamation operations of 16.7 hectares and connecting Komandoo and Mathi Komandoo with a 200m link. 1,690m of shore protection rectification.
