The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially inaugurated its new dredger and the start of the practical work of the Dhaandhoo land reclamation project.
Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, MTCC's CEO Adam Azim and Dhaandhoo Constituency MP Yaugoob Abdulla attended the ceremony held Sunday night.
MTCC said that when the Dhaandhoo land reclamation project is completed, the island's land will be doubled, and the newly reclaimed land will be linked to the mainland via a bridge. When the project is completed, there will be an area where people can swim and enjoy themselves, the company said.
MTCC's new dredger will be used for dredging in the Dhaandhoo Land Reclamation project. This will be the first development project for which the dredger is utilized. With the inclusion of the new dredger in its fleet, MTCC has become one of the leading companies in the dredging sector in the region.
Under the Dhaandhoo dredging project, an area of 975,000 cbm will be dredged and reclaimed. The construction of 807m of revetment and 555m of groyne will be carried out. The value of the project is MVR 186.64 million.
MTCC has completed many projects in different parts of the country in the past three years. MTCC was established in 1980 at an important stage in the Maldives' development journey. Since its inception, MTCC has played an important role in building the country's infrastructure development and social resources.
