An agreement has been signed between Ministry of National Planning and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop K. Kudagiri as a picnic island.
The agreement was signed during a special ceremony held at the Planning Ministry on Tuesday. The agreement was signed by Director General of Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shana Farooq on behalf of the government while CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim signed the document on behalf of MTCC.
The project value is MVR 41.4 million. As per the contract, the development of the picnic island is expected to reach completion within 150 days. The scope of the project includes dredging 8 hectares of land, a 397.27 meter breakwater and a 428.32 meter groyne. Two islands will be developed in the Kudagiri lagoon - an 8 hectare picnic island and a 1.5 hectare sandbank.
Adam Azim said the project will likely reach completion within six to eight months. However, the company will try to expedite the work, he added.
It is an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to develop a picnic island for the residents of the Greater Male' Area.
