Kudagiri picnic island to reach completion by end of March

The picnic island being developed in K. Kudagiri for Male' City residents will reach completion in March 2022, the Planning Ministry has said.

As per President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's electoral pledge, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was contracted to develop Kudagiri as a picnic island in September this year. The project, valued at MVR 41.4 million, includes dredging 8 hectares of land, a 397.27-meter breakwater, and a 428.32-meter groyne. Two islands will be developed in the Kudagiri lagoon - an 8-hectare picnic island and a 1.5-hectare sandbank. MTCC was given 150 days to complete the project.

The Planning Ministry said the project is well underway. MTCC is expected to conclude work and hand over the island at the end of March, the ministry said in its latest update on the project.
