Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has said that the key to resolving all the challenges faced by the Maldives lies within the policies of the emerging party, "The Democrats".
Nasheed made the statement at the official opening of the Democrats' primary activity hall, the House of Democrats. Situated on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, just in front of the Artificial Beach, this location was previously the main party center of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Speaking at the event, Nasheed said the Democrats will soon present its policies to the people, which he believes will be the optimal solution for the Maldives' issues.
“Those policies will give us something better tomorrow than today,” he said.
Nasheed said the Democrats possess the necessary policies and mindset to fulfill the collective aspirations and demands of the nation's people.
Indirectly criticizing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government, Nasheed said the purpose of development projects should not involve seeking corruption through project agreements, a goal that a Democrats-led government would never pursue.
“The Democrats Party will bring a government that will work for the benefit of the Maldives,” Nasheed said.
Although Nasheed spoke at the Democrats' function, he has not yet signed up for the party. However, he has announced that he would be joining the party.
With the official opening of the Democrats' party center, the party has declared its commitment to carry out political activities even while awaiting official registration.
