Voters registered to Male' in last election will not have to re-register: EC

The Election Commission (EC) announced today that individuals who voted in the previous election in Male' City will not need to go through the registration process again for the upcoming presidential election.

EC President, Fuwad Thaufeek told AVAS that those who cast their votes in the 2018 election in Male' City will not be required to re-register for voting in the city during this year's presidential election. However, from among those who voted in Male', those who wish to vote in Hulhumale' and Villimale' will have to re-register, he said.

He further clarified that those who participated in the 2018 election will be automatically registered at the location where they voted previously. Individuals who previously voted on an island that is not their current residential island will need to re-register if they wish to vote at their current place of residence.

The opportunity to re-register for the presidential election will open on July 16.

The first round of voting for the presidential election is scheduled for September 9. If a second round of voting becomes necessary, it will take place on September 30.
