The Elections Commission (EC) has opened re-registration for the upcoming presidential election.
The opportunity is open from today until August 5.
Although re-registration is open for a total of three weeks, online re-registration will be available for the first two weeks only. Therefore, the opportunity to re-register online will expire on July 29.
Speaking at an earlier press conference, the President of EC, Fuwad Thawfeek, said those who voted in the last local council in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale' would not need to re-register themselves for the September election. Those residing in Hulhumale' and Villimale' will have the opportunity to re-register to vote in Male', he said.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 9 this year. If a second round of voting is required, the vote will be held on September 30. EC said 604 ballot boxes will be placed for the election.
