Pres Solih challenges rivals to step up game

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has challenged his opponents to step up their game and increase the level of competition against him.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Meemu Dhiggaru on Sunday night, President Solih said some opposing parties seem to be stuck in the past, using outdated strategies that the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) used in the early 2000s. In contrast, he emphasized the remarkable progress MDP has made in advancing democracy.

"I sometimes wonder if our competitors are still living in the early 2000s. It appears that some of the tactics we used back then are being reenacted in certain islands today. I would like to respectfully urge them to abandon these [outdated methods] and engage in a more dynamic and competitive campaign," President Solih stated.

Addressing the recent departure of several MDP leaders from the party, the President encouraged existing members to remain enthusiastic and resolute in winning the upcoming election despite the ongoing political turmoil. He expressed his satisfaction with the MDP's current democratic achievements and credited the party's success to consistent participation in elections and the delivery of results.

The President concluded his speech with a strong message to the opposition. The President said the government will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt peace or create unrest. He reassured the public that the police and army would ensure the country's stability.

"I respectfully implore them to let go. Embrace a competitive campaign. We stand prepared to face them head-on and secure victory in the next presidential election by a large margin," the president said.
