The Maldives National Party (MNP) has appointed its vice-president and Villimale MP, Ahmed Usham as the election agent of the party's presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim. The announcement was made via a tweet on Tuesday.
While 46 days remain until the September presidential election, President Ibrahim Mohamed solih appointed Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz as his election agent. Meanwhile, the main opposition, the PPM-PNC coalition, appointed the PPM's Secretary General, Mohamed Tholal, as the party's candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen's election agent.
The Election Commission has now opened the opportunity for those interested in contesting the presidential election to submit their candidacy forms. The opportunity will be open until 2:00 pm on Monday, July 17.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 9 this year. If a second round of voting is required, the vote will be held on September 30.
