The Election Commission (EC) has granted a two-day extension on the deadline for online re-registration to vote in the presidential election.
Initially set to expire yesterday, the deadline for online re-registration has now been extended until tomorrow, as announced by the commission.
As of yesterday, approximately 12,000 people had re-registered online. However, the commission estimates that nearly 40,000 people still need to re-register from the Male' area alone.
More than 95,000 people re-registered for the 2018 presidential election.
According to EC, individuals who registered to vote in Male' city during the most recent council election do not need to re-register for the upcoming September 9 presidential election. However, those residing on islands other than their registered ones, excluding Male', must complete the re-registration process.
If the presidential election results in a second round, voting for the runoff will take place on September 30.
