Election Agents named for The Democrats and MRM presidential candidates

Election agents have been appointed for the presidential candidates representing The Democrats and the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).

Fathimath Niuma was appointed as the election agent for The Democrats' presidential candidate, MP Ilyas Labeeb. Niuma's appointment as Ilyas' election agent coincided with her decision to tender her resignation from the Deputy Minister of Planning position earlier on Wednesday, which she was elected to under the banner of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Her letter of resignation addressed to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih did not provide specific reasons for her departure. She left the MDP and aligned herself with The Democrats shortly after her resignation.

In a parallel move, the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) appointed former Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Ismail Zabeeh, as the election agent for their presidential candidate, Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's designated election agent is Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz, whereas the People's Party (PPM) candidate and former President Abdulla Yameen's election agent is the party's Secretary General, Mohamed Tholal. The Maldives National Party (MNP) has appointed Ahmed Usham, the party's Vice President from Vilimale', as the election agent for their candidate, Mohamed Nazim.
