The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has unveiled its youth policy under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's second-term manifesto.
The "New Youth Generation" policy was unveiled at a campaign event at Noonu Velidhoo on Sunday night.
The youth policy gives top priority to increasing opportunities for youth by providing them with affordable housing. This includes providing loans at six percent interest to build plots available to youths and creating affordable co-living spaces for youths pursuing higher education.
The youth policy also gives high priority to increasing opportunities in the sports field, emphasizing emerging categories such as e-sports, martial arts, water sports, and beach sports. The policy also calls for constructing a sports complex on each island.
Moreover, relevant hubs will be established to provide opportunities to young people who want to pursue business avenues. Supportive measures, including soft loans, will be extended to bolster the expansion of small-scale enterprises.
According to the youths who presented the policies, they were formulated after research and traveling across the Maldives to have extensive dialogues with youth nationwide. They said the MDP is the only party that can effectively address the aspirations of the young populace.
