Ballot paper design to be finalized soon

The design of the ballot papers to be used in the upcoming presidential election is set to be finalized within the next two days, according to Ismail Habeeb, the Vice President of the Election Commission.

Habeeb told the election's National Advisory Committee on Monday that the ballot papers will be made with special security features. Information on security features will be shared with the polling station officials, he said.

"As you know, for various reasons, the information on the security features on the ballot paper cannot be publicly shared. We will disclose this information where necessary and to the extent necessary," he said.

Habeeb said in this election, individuals with visual impairments will be able to cast their votes independently without requiring assistance. This breakthrough has presented the Election Commission with unique challenges, including the task of designing ballots that accommodate these voters' needs. He said a dedicated program will be conducted to raise awareness among visually impaired individuals about the ballot papers.

Habeeb added that the printing of the ballot papers will start as soon as the design work is completed. The commission is fully prepared for the election, and the main works for the election will reach completion when the printing process is completed, he said.

Habeeb said there are still difficulties in recruiting officials for the election. However, he expressed confidence that while there are now approximately 200 backup officials to be hired, the positions would be filled before voting day.
