Dr. Muizzu's manifesto: 65,000 flats from Male' City area

The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has unveiled a comprehensive manifesto outlining 19 pivotal projects aimed at transforming the development landscape of Male' City.

Launching his manifesto on Sunday night, Dr. Muizzu presented policies catering to the youth, women, and the fishing sector, which makes up the first three chapters of the manifesto. The manifesto's eight main sections address the prevalent housing challenges in the Maldives.

While the plans for Male' development span multiple phases over a twenty-year period, the manifesto includes allocating a total of 65,000 flats from Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru Falhu, Fushidhiggaru Falhu, Male, and Hulhumale'. The manifesto proposes the demolition of the existing Sinamale' flats in Male' City and the rebuilding tall towers at the location. It also includes the development of Hulhumale' Phase II in accordance with the previous master plan and the integration of Hulhumale' under the jurisdiction of the Male' City Council.

Additionally, the electricity and water systems of Villimale' will be re-established, and permits will be issued to construct ten-story building will be built in Villimale', he said.

According to the manifesto, an integrated development initiative, financed by investor contributions and revenue generated from housing units, will be implemented in six or eight islands in the north and south of the country.

The manifesto also includes plans to establish a dedicated fund instead of relying on private companies for housing construction and the establishment of a land development system aligned with public preferences. The policy assures the availability of accessible loans, home renovation funds, and home completion loans adhering to Islamic principles if desired.

The manifesto also proposes the relocation of the planned commercial port in Gulhufalhu to the industrial island Thilafushi. This aligns with the plans made by the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Muizzu's manifesto promises to provide basic services to all islands and road construction projects in larger islands. It also positions Addu City as the administrative tourism hub and an international gateway. The manifesto also outlines strategies for utilizing airports to boost tourism and increase visitor revenue.
