Parliamentary session abruptly adjourned amidst disagreements

The parliamentary session on Monday was abruptly adjourned as Speaker Mohamed Nasheed expressed frustration over a lack of cooperation among parliamentarians in facilitating the session's proceedings.

Loud disagreements were voiced on the parliamentary floor after Nasheed's announcement that the formation of committees would only proceed upon receiving letters from newly affiliated MPs of The Democrats. The exchanges prompted the Speaker to single out Dhaandhoo MP Yaagoub Abdulla, Kelaa MP Ibrahim Shareef, and Thinadhoo North MP Abdul Mughnee, instructing them to leave the parliamentary floor. However, their refusal to leave the floor led to the session going to recess. Their presence on the floor, even when the session resumed, provoked Nasheed to reiterate the demand to leave the floor.

Later in the session, Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa occupied the seat designated for cabinet ministers. With this act, Nasheed announced Ghafoor'ss name and asked him to leave the floor. When he refused to do so, Nasheed made the decision to adjourn the session for the day.
