Five years spent undoing damage done by previous gov'ts: Fayyaz

The Chairperson of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyasz Ismail, has said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's five-year tenure primarily focused on addressing the challenges left behind by previous administrations.

Speaking at an event held at Male' Social Center to unveil the final chapter of the MDP Manifesto for the upcoming presidential election, Fayyaz said the MDP manifesto will bring about major changes in all sectors of the nation. He said the manifesto was formulated based on the experience of the government over the last five years and the feelings and insights gained from engaging with the people during the MDP's two decades of grassroots involvement.

Fayyaz countered the opposition's claim that the current government has driven the country into bankruptcy, asserting that these accusations are baseless. He pointed out that even amid the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government managed to maintain financial stability without accumulating debt. Additionally, he highlighted the post-pandemic achievements and advancements that have brought unprecedented positive changes to the country.

“With these changes, [the economy] has become even stronger,” Fayyaz said.

Fayyaz said the current government brought significant changes to the education and health sector to rectify the damage done by previous administrations.

Fayyaz further said positive changes would be brought about across the country with the implementation of the MDP manifesto with President Solih's re-election. Fayyaz also urged the people to vote for President Solih in the upcoming presidential election if they do not want to reverse the good changes and development being brought by the government.
