The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has pledged to establish an international hospital specialised in maternal and child healthcare.
Speaking at a campaign rally held at Fuvahmulah City on Saturday, Dr. Muizzu recognized the current gaps in providing healthcare to pregnant women and children in the Maldives. He emphasized the need for a dedicated system that caters to their unique needs.
"We will hopefully establish a maternity and children's hospital in the Maldives that provides the best services at the international level," Dr. Muizzu said, adding that the hospital would become the best such hospital in the region.
The presidential hopeful also committed to providing housing to every citizen under his rule. Speaking regarding the Hiyaa housing project implemented by former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, the largest such project to date, Dr. Muizzu said the project was targeted not only at the general populace but also at employees of various government-owned companies and government agencies. He expressed disappointment that the current administration halted some of the work under the project after they took office.
Highlighting the adverse effects of the changes, Muizzu said it left several government employees without housing. He vowed to issue flats to those who were assured flats under the Hiyaa scheme but had not received flats and provided assurance that employees of all government institutions would be provided with housing under his rule.
"Four years have passed, and the fifth year is coming to an end with empty promises remaining unfulfilled. These employees still have not received housing, they have no hope," Muizzu said.
