Pres Solih unveils plans for new airport in Laamu Atoll

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will build an additional airport in Laamu Atoll.

Speaking at a campaign rally held at Laamu Isdhoo Kalaidhoo on Monday, President Solih said although the government has decided to build an additional airport in Laamu Atoll, a specific location for the airport has not yet been determined. Further details about the project were not disclosed.

“This will be finalized after consultation between the people and government officials,” he said.

President Solih, who is seeking re-election, said his commitment to projects is based on their feasibility and that the projects are not merely election-driven aspirations. He added that his promises are established after consulting with the people and determining their needs and requirements. He has no other purpose than to improve the situation in the country and take it to a higher level, he assured.

The President said that his government would not neglect the people as previous governments did. He accused previous governments of misleading the public with their actions.

Recalling the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Solih accused opposition leaders of advising against vaccination while secretly receiving vaccinations themselves through contacts in the government. He criticized the opposition for its deceptive behavior, suggesting that this pattern would continue.
