Dr. Muizzu commits to building int'l airport in GA. Villingili

The PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to constructing an international airport in Gaafu Alifu Villingili.

Speaking at a campaign rally held on Monday, Muizzu said the existing airport in Kooddoo, which is adjacent to Villingili, will be converted into a training airport if he is elected to office.

Muizzu said an integrated tourism project will be launched in the southern region with the establishment of the Villingili airport. He expressed the belief that both Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu atolls should feature international airports.

The presidential hopeful said the plan involves dredging the Villingi lagoon for airport construction and connecting the airport to the mainland. Land will be allocated from the dredged area for Villingili residents and those who wish to migrate to Villingili, he said.

Muizzu further committed to establishing a Maldives National University campus and dormitories in Villingili. He highlighted his intent to provide facilities for sports enthusiasts as well.

Muizzu emphasized his commitment to fulfilling promises, pledging not to make claims beyond his capacity. Additionally, he promised further development for the Kooddoo fish factory and the establishment of a decompression chamber in the Villingili area.

“I will not promise anything that I cannot do,” Muizzu said.
