Democrats will be part of incoming gov't: Hassan Latheef

The Democrats has said the party would be part of President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government. The announcement was made by The Democrats' Founder and Maafannu West MP Hassan Latheef.

In a post on social media platform X, Hassan Latheef said the Democrats would be part of the incoming administration. However, he did not share further details.

The Democrats secured a third-place finish in the recent presidential election. Despite receiving a request from the PPM-PNC coalition to endorse Dr. Muizzu in the second round of the election, The Democrats opted not to back any candidate. While Hassan Latheef has expressed The Democrats' commitment to be part of Dr. Muizzu's government, there is no formal agreement between PPM-PNC and The Democrats.

The Democrats were formed by a group of a group of individuals who had been prominent figures within the main-ruling MDP but decided to part ways due to internal conflicts. Throughout the election campaign, the party heavily criticized President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration.
