Adeeb's medical leave extended for second time

The medical furlough granted to former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been extended for a second time.

Adeeb, who was under house arrest, traveled to Singapore under the custody of Maldives Correctional Service and the police on July 11, following permission to seek medical treatment abroad. Despite being initially granted a 10-day period to return to the Maldives, he did not return within the period. He applied for an extension of the medical furlough, which was approved until August 28.

Following the expiration of the initial extension on Tuesday, Maldives Correctional Service has confirmed the approval of a second extension. A representative from the institution confirmed that this new extension will conclude on September 15.

According to Adeeb's party, the Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD), Adeeb suffered from a life-threatening neurological disease and was advised by several doctors at various hospitals to seek treatment abroad.
