Ex-VP Adeeb returns after medical treatment in Singapore

Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb on Friday returned to the Maldives after undergoing medical treatment in Singapore.

Adeeb, who was under house arrest, traveled to Singapore under the custody of Maldives Correctional Service and the police on July 11, following permission to seek medical treatment abroad. Initially granted a 10-day return period, he extended it twice, with the latest extension expiring on October 1. His return precedes the latest deadline.

Adeeb's party, the Maldives Thirdway Democrats (MTD) stated that he returned after completing the first phase of his treatment, with the second and final phase scheduled for October. The party expressed gratitude to the government for facilitating Adeeb's medical treatment.

According to the MTD, Adeeb left for Singapore on the advice of several doctors to seek treatment for a life-threatening neurological disease. Adib has also previously suffered from several health problems and has received treatment in Maldives and abroad.
