Pres Solih unveils vision for L. Fonadhoo and Gan

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said he would bring revolutionary development to Laamu Fonadhoo and Laamu Gan.

Seeking re-election, the president attended a campaign rally at Laamu Fonadhoo on Tuesday. Speaking at the rally, the president shared ambitious plans for developing Laamu Fonadhoo and Gan and said his vision includes increasing the population of both islands to 25,000 within a decade.

Specific initiatives outlined for Gan include establishing a tertiary hospital, a cancer treatment hospital, a commercial seaport, sports facilities, and government agency branches. Similarly, President Solih pledged a modern office building, housing programs, health center upgrades, road developments, and sports complexes for Fonadhoo. The president emphasized the importance of fulfilling promises and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of both islands.

Referring to the plans to upgrade Kaamu Kadhdhoo Airport as an international airport, the president said the direct arrival of tourists and goods from abroad to Laamu Atoll will revolutionize the entire atoll.

President Solih said many of his promises when he came to power in 2018 have been fulfilled. He highlighted that his efforts have been well-received by the people, with a majority of islands assuring him of the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) dominant support in the upcoming election. The president expressed his assurance that, out of the 187 inhabited islands in the Maldives, he is poised to secure the majority of votes from all but 59 islands. He added that the sentiment of other islands is also leaning in favor of his candidacy.
