MTCC awarded contract to build Muli-Naalaafushi causeway

The construction of the causeway connecting Muli and Naalafushi islands in Meemu atoll has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The project agreement was signed by the Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathmath Shana Farooq, on behalf of the government, and MTCC's CEO, Adam Azim, on behalf of the company.

According to the Planning Ministry, the project involves the construction of a 565-metre causeway with 105-metre bridge in three segments. The causeway will feature 112 meters of revetment and 15 meters of groyne.

MTCC was awarded the project for MVR 125.5 million, to be completed within 600 days.

Muli-Naalaafushi causeway was also included in President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's 2018 presidential manifesto. The 2022 budget also included the project.
