Pres Solih unveils ambitious plans for Funadhoo island

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced a significant development plan for Funadhoo, the island closest to Male' City.

During an MDP campaign rally in Male' City on Friday night, President Solih announced that the government intends to remove the existing oil tanks on the island and replace them with a state-of-the-art convention center, shopping malls, and a modern city hotel, aligning with President Solih's vision for Male' City in a potential second term.

Providing further details, the President said that the city hotel would include special entertainment facilities. The island will be linked to Male' for smoother accessibility, he added.

President Solih revealed that the necessary funds for Funadhoo's transformation have been secured with assistance from a neighboring country. However, he did not disclose which country it was.

In the past, some relevant agencies have expressed concerns about the safety of storing fuel used by STO on Funadhoo due to its proximity to the capital, Male', and Velana International Airport. While President Solih has said the oil tanks will be removed, he did not outline specific steps regarding its removal and where it would be stored.
