President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, seeking re-election, has said he remains unfazed by criticism targeted at him and affirmed his dedication to fulfilling his campaign promises.
Speaking at a campaign event at HDh. Makunudhooo, President Solih acknowledged the criticism directed at him by political rivals. However, he would not respond to such talk no matter what is being said against him, he said.
The President said that although his rivals have repeatedly voiced slanderous remarks about him, it is more important to fulfill his responsibilities than to respond to such statements. He emphasized his commitment was to deliver on his pledges.
"The people have entrusted me with too many tasks. I have no intention of responding to anyone who says such things," he said.
President Solih underscored his commitment to freedom of expression during his rule, provided it aligns with Islamic principles and adheres to legal frameworks. The incumbent government has given freedom of expression and press freedom to an extent that no other government has given, he said.
Rival party supporters have targeted President Solih during his campaign visits with provocative songs and lyrics. Some politically affiliated private channels also air such songs.
