Alifushi Airport on track to begin service before year-end

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that Alifushi Airport would reach completion before the end of the year and start operation.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Alifushi on Tuesday night, President Solih recalled an Alifushi carpenter singing a hopeful song during his 2018 campaign visit to the island, expressing his dreams of an airport on the island. President Solih stated that this dream is now becoming a reality and is on track for completion by year-end.

- Dredging of land
- Construction of row houses or flats
- Development of an artificial beach
- Establishment of a waste management system
- Protection of the island's eroded area
- Tarring all roads
- Construction of a futsal field
- Make the TVET center accessible to school students
- Construction of a Child and Family Protection Unit
- Developing Ehthingili Island as a resort
- Construction of a new powerhouse
- Air conditioning of the school's multi-purpose hall
- Air conditioning of the Friday Mosque
- Development of school science lab
- Construction of an indoor and outdoor sports arena
- Establishing a modern license track

The President said these are some of the developments that are yet to be brought to Alifushi and said that more plans for the island were also in the pipeline.

He further said that while the Maldives is an archipelago, no island should discriminated against to bring development to the country. He said the Maldives' economy can be taken to a new level by utilizing the available natural resources.
