Faris offers apology for injustices during father's regime

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's son and independent presidential candidate, Ahmed Faris Maumoon, has issued a public apology, acknowledging the injustices that some individuals endured during his father's 30-year regime.

In a video shared on social media, Faris expressed his awareness that certain people suffered during President Maumoon's rule and believed that some individuals still carry the burden of that suffering.

"It is indeed a fact that some people suffered during President Maumoon's rule and were caused grief. I accept it. I acknowledge that some people still carry this grief. I do not deny it. I sincerely apologize to you for this," he said.

Faris also recognized that some of his recent statements may have added to the grief and apologized for the remarks. He said he was determined to bring solace to them under his rule.

“My determination is to provide full relief to all those who have borne this burden under my government," he said.
