Pres Solih hails Maldives' most peaceful election in history

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said the ongoing presidential election in the Maldives stands as the most peaceful in the nation's history.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote at the polling station at Jamaluddin School, President Solih said the election was free and fair despite the significant number of candidates vying for office.

The President pointed out the punctual start of voting at polling stations as evidence of the election's smooth progress. He said this was not something that was witnessed in previous elections. He said that there had been no significant unrest or difficulties in managing polling stations thus far.

"I think the campaign is proceeding very peacefully. It adheres to strong democratic principles not witnessed in the Maldives before."

President Solih also expressed his satisfaction that the candidates could campaign without any difficulty or hindrances. He anticipated a voter turnout between 80 to 90 percent.
