Dr. Muizzu extends hand of unity to parties for second round of elections

PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on all political parties to join his campaign for the second round of the presidential election.

Muizzu made this appeal during a rally held at the Artificial Beach on Sunday night, where he expressed his gratitude to supporters after emerging as the leading contender in Saturday's presidential election. He secured 46.19 percent of the votes, totaling 100,342 votes, while incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih trailed behind with 39.04 percent of the votes, amounting to 84,805 votes. With no candidate meeting the 50 percent threshold for a single-round victory, a second round of voting has been confirmed.

"I am extending a hand of friendship. To anyone who loves their country, to any party, come join with us," he said.

Muizzu said he considered his quest for presidency a national mission and urged candidates who competed in Saturday's election, as well as their respective parties, to join hands to fulfill this mission on September 30, in the second round of the election.

One key condition Muizzu emphasized for collaboration was a commitment to uphold the country's sovereignty and independence, with his central promise being to safeguard the nation's independence.

Muizzu also urged his supporters across the islands to prioritize the country's interests ahead of political ideology.

“There is no disagreement here,” he said.

Dr. Muizzu also assured that those who voted against him in the first round would be treated equally as those who supported him on the day he assumes power, emphasizing that no one would face discrimination. He pledged to ensure equitable development in all islands, regardless of their size.

"Join us. Be part of this national effort," he urged.
