Pres Solih receives positive signals in coalition talks for second round

Incumbent President and MDP presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has reported receiving favorable indications in coalition discussions for the upcoming second round of the presidential election.

In Saturday's presidential election, President Solih secured second place with 39.05 percent of the votes, totaling 86,166 votes. Meanwhile, his rival, PPM-PNC candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, emerged as the leading candidate with 46.19 percent of the votes, amounting to 100,342 votes. Since neither candidate garnered the required 50 percent majority for a single-round victory, a second round of voting has been confirmed, heightening the significance of forming alliances with other parties to secure victory.

In a phone interview with Raajje TV on Monday, President Solih said discussions were underway with parties that did not advance to the second round of the presidential election.

"There were talks with the parties that did not advance to the second round even yesterday. Some have given the green light to align with us, although it is not yet ready for official announcement," he said.

The president disclosed that two or three parties are expected to form a coalition with the MDP in the second round. He expressed confidence that MDP will make progress in the second round with the new coalition.
