The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has announced his intention to reduce the monthly rent for Hiyaa flat units to MVR 5,600.
At a campaign event held in Hulhumale' Phase II on Friday, Dr. Muizzu vowed to revert the flat rents to the rates established during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen. He reiterated that flat recipients would be reimbursed for the interior work they did on their units.
Muizzu pointed out that upon assuming office, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration had initially considered demolishing the Hiyaa flats. In contrast, Muizzu pledged that, if elected, he would enhance the Hiyaa neighborhood by introducing additional elevators in each tower and advancing its overall development. Muizzu added that the current government had time to develop the Hiyaa neighborhood but neglected to do so.
Muizzu had previously made promises to reduce the rent for government-issued Vinares flats in Hulhumale' Phase II and for flats constructed by government-owned companies.
