Over 47,000 apply for second round re-registration

Over 47,000 individuals have submitted applications for re-registration for the second round of the presidential election, the Elections Commission (EC) has said.

The EC commenced the re-registration process for the second round, slated for September 30, on Friday, with the deadline set for 4 pm on Sunday. By the cutoff time, more than 47,000 applicants had applied for re-registration. This figure marks a significant increase of 7,000 compared to the number of individuals who re-registered during the initial round of the presidential election.

The EC said more than 19,000 forms have already been processed, while more than 27,000 forms are being verified.

A total of 282,803 individuals are eligible to vote in the second round of the presidential election. This includes 403 newly eligible young voters who have reached voting age.
