The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has pledged to establish a separate state agency aimed at assuring the rights of every citizen.
Speaking at a campaign rally and Raa Hulhudhuffaaru on Wednesday, Muizzu emphasized his dedication to upholding the constitutional rights guaranteed to all citizens under his leadership. To achieve this goal, he pledged to create an agency responsible for addressing the grievances of citizens who feel their rights have been denied.
"There are civil rights departments in some foreign countries. What matters here is not the name but ensuring it [the rights]," he said.
Criticizing the current administration, Dr. Muizzu said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government policies failed to secure the people's rights. However, this would not be the case under his leadership, he assured. He further emphasized that he viewed presidency as a significant responsibility rather than a great honor.
Muizzu further criticized the government for delayed government projects and its approach to strengthening relations with India, which he believed compromised Maldives' sovereignty. He also expressed concern over the slow progress of the Thilamale' Bridge, noting that despite the approaching end of President Solih's five-year term, there was little visible progress despite a substantial expenditure of USD 193 million out of a total budget of USD 500 million for bridge construction.
Dr. Muizzu urged the public to ask the President regarding the project delays and pledged to expedite such projects and prioritize the people's wishes if elected. He called upon all citizens to vote for him with a national mindset.
