Pres Solih announces land allocation for long-term Male' residents from UTF

Incumbent President and the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that land will be given to people who have lived in Male' city for over 20 years from Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF).

A military port is currently being developed in Uthuru Thila Falhu with the aid of the Indian government.

At a campaign rally held on September 19 at Male' Galolhu Kanmathi, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that a housing program for individuals who moved to Male' and have lived there for over 20 years will be announced soon.

"We've decided to launch another housing program to provide land and houses to those registered in the Male' Dhaftharu for over 20 years and those residing in Male' for the same duration," the president had said.

Regarding the program, the President Saturday said that details would be shared the same night. He noted that the land would come from Uthuru Thila Falhu, which the opposition claims has been occupied by Indian military personnel. This scheme will benefit everyone in this category.. The scheme will provide land to all those in this category.

"The place [Uthuru Fila Falhu] will be inhabited by Maldivians. Not foreigners. A bridge will connect Male' to Villimale, Villimale to Gulhifalhu, Gulhifalhu to Thilafushi, Theilafushi to Giraavaru Falhu, and Giraavaru Falhu to Uthuru Thila Falhu," he said.

The president assured that the government would act according to the people's desires and that the MDP government would provide the happiness and peace desired by the Maldives citizens.

Earlier in the day, the government announced its plan to allocate more than 4,000 plots and 6,000 flats in Male' City. The government had also recently allocated land to 19,842 eligible people under the Binveriyaa Scheme and is preparing to allocate flats to 16,923 eligible individuals under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme.
