Vehicles carrying goods have been banned from driving in Male' City on voting day.
The second round of the presidential election will take place on September 30, Saturday. The Election Commission has decided that the second round of voting will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Transport Ministry said the decision to ban goods-carrying vehicles on voting day was taken in light of the expected heavy traffic, which presents security and administrative challenges. The ministry said such vehicles will not be allowed on the streets from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday.
During the first round of the presidential election held on the 9th of this month, Male' City experienced considerable traffic congestion. Lorries and pickups carrying goods and other large vehicles prompted numerous complaints from the public.
